Lean in a little closer, beauty. I have a TRU Beauty secret for you: The secret to glowing youthful skin starts from within you.
Within our guts and on our bodies, we have over 38 trillion microorganisms. These microorganisms are directly linked to the clarity, quality, and youthfulness of your skin. Think of it like this: If eyes are the window to the soul, the skin reveals what’s going on in your gut. When this important ecosystem is thrown off balance, it starts to send stress signals to all parts of your body, especially the skin.
The visible results of imbalance? When our microbiome is out of balance, this shows outwardly in many different ways, some of which you might be experiencing right now. IBS, sinus infections, throat issues, yeast infections, Crohn’s, colitis, and more are often linked to an imbalance of bacteria in our gut. It also most definitely shows on our skin as acne and/or accelerated signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles.
Not to mention the other byproducts of the above symptoms: The mental stress, the weight these challenges hold over your day-to-day. It’s hard to deal with! But there’s good news… You don’t have to live this way.
Speaking from experience, you have the power to make positive changes in your life that improve and eliminate all those negative symptoms. The best part? These lifestyle shifts don’t come with all the nasty side effects associated with pharmaceuticals. In fact, the only real side effect is an increased sense of happiness and vitality.
Below are my top tips to rebalance your gut so you can maintain clear, glowing, and youthful skin. These tips will definitely leave you looking and FEELING like your best self!
Seek Water Everywhere. Hydration is a key element in transforming your skin. But you want to hydrate yourself on a cellular level, be sure that you’re drinking pure, clean H2O filled with essential minerals and electrolytes, so that you fully absorb all the beautifying benefits.
Another great source of water is: Eat ALL the plant foods. Plants are filled with water. Specifically: Cucumber, melon, berries, leafy greens, tomatoes, and peaches. These plants deliver hydration needed for healthy digestion and provide moisture to the entire body, including the skin. It’s hydrating and beautifying from the inside out.
Tips to increase your water intake:
Get your Prebiotics (like TRU Inulin) & Probiotics! The microbiome is the control center of our body’s systems—dictating the libido, sleep quality, nervous system health, how calories are absorbed, immune response, and more.
Probiotics are the beneficial, living bacteria that help keep the body in balance, while prebiotic fiber (what’s found in TRU Inulin, organic fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds) feeds these strains to keep them thriving. The probiotics need the prebiotics to live, thrive, and colonize.
Tips to start using prebiotics and probiotics:
Improve your microbiome by consuming beneficial bacteria from food. Add in sauerkraut, miso, fermented coconut yogurt & tempeh into your diet—daily if possible.
Let’s cut the crap… The crap food, that is. Symptoms like dry skin, breakouts, and irritation are often directly linked to inflammation in the body caused by acidic and inflammatory food.
When you are eating a diet rich in plants of all colors you ensure that your microbiome is getting the nutrients that it needs to truly THRIVE. Each plant contains its own powerful nutrients to support your body. By incorporating a variety of plants into your diet, you get an array of nutrients as well, which will help keep your skin glowing. A good place to start is to shoot for at least five different plants in each meal and avoid processed foods.
Tips to incorporate more plants into your diet:
Energy drives energy. If you’re overwhelmed and stressed, the first place this is going to show up is on your face. If you’re happy, relaxed and inflow, this too is going to show up on your face. Additionally, stress affects your microbiome. Feeling good decreases the feelings of stress and anxiety on your body, therefore decreasing stress on your microbiome and helps you look refreshed.
Tips to avoid or cope with stress:
The connection between our food and beauty is so interrelated and powerful. Just by changing the foods you consume, you can drastically change the way you look and feel. Additionally, a healthy, fully functioning liver is crucial to the body’s detoxification process. When the liver is overworked it is less capable of removing waste from our body which often shows up on our skin as acne and rashes.
