If you’ve downloaded the 7 Steps to Detox Your Life Guide or are planning to participate in the 14 Day Glorious Greens, Please Challenge (Nov. 29) , this post is FOR YOU! One of the key steps in the guide is to be mindful of your nutrition.
Today’s environment is more toxic than ever before in history. Daily, we are exposed to an increasing number of chemicals in our food and water supply, the air we breathe, and many common household and personal care items. These toxins and chemicals have negative adverse effects as they build up in our system.
When it comes to detox, maintaining a healthy diet is the most important thing to consider and the first place you should start. I always recommend first, removing foods that interfere with detoxification or make you more toxic while crowding them out with nutritious foods that work for you.
You ARE what you eat—our bodies are what we put in them. The foods and substances that we consume have the power to affect both our internal and external worlds. With the right foods, our bodies have the power to flush out toxins and fight against any unwanted illness or disease.
Eating living and vibrant foods that support your body’s natural ability to detox is a great way to flush out toxins and start feeling better. Let’s start with the foundation: Choose plant-based foods. Plants are proven to prevent and reverse disease and remove toxins. Clean, fresh, REAL food provides you with everything you need to THRIVE without clogging your system with junk.
When I am doing a detox of any kind, I love to incorporate an abundance of colorful raw vegetables. Everything you put in your body takes you closer to vibrant health or disease. With plant-based alkaline food, you’re fueling your cells and taking powerful steps towards vitality and life-long health.

Let me break down the detox benefits of this wrap.
Beets literally, push toxins out of your body. Beets contain a group of phytonutrients, called betalains, that support detoxification through increasing enzymes (such as glutathione S-transferase), an important Phase II detox step for your liver. When your liver can detoxify chemicals and toxins more effectively, then your body is better able to balance your hormones and improve your energy levels.
Broccoli sprouts contain exceptionally high levels of glucoraphanin, which upon mastication or other damage to cruciferous plants becomes sulforaphane. Similar to beets, this compound is a known inducer of phase II detox enzymes in large part due to its activation of Nrf2, a transcription factor regulating key antioxidant and phase II detoxifying enzymes including NQO1 and glutathione-S-transferase (GST). In addition to activating Nrf2, sulforaphane may also trigger the expression of key genes involved in detoxification enzyme expression.
Carrots are one of the most powerful detoxing veggies out there. They are packed with vitamin A, which helps the liver flush out toxins. The same vitamin reduces the fat in the liver, while the fiber they contain helps clean out the colon. Additionally, carrots are a good source of carotenoids, which acts as an antioxidant and helps in detoxifying your system.
Cabbage acts as an excellent detoxifier as it purifies the blood and removes toxins due to the high content of Vitamin C and sulfur. Its high content of iodine helps the brain and nervous system function properly and keeps the endocrine system in good condition. Vitamin E, on the other hand, is responsible for keeping the skin, eyes, and hair healthy. It prevents cancer thanks to the high content of antioxidants and the glutamine combats inflammation. Turn it into fermented Sauerkraut and you have an amazing source of lactic acid which helps reduce muscle aches.
Cucumbers are extremely beneficial for our health as they support the digestive tract, cleanse the liver, help us stay hydrated, and reduce bloating and water retention. They are known for their amazing cleaning properties and actively remove toxins and waste from our bodies. boasting a perfect mix of fiber and water, as well as protecting the body from constipation and kidney stones.
