Essentially, detoxification is a medicinal process that refers to the natural removal of toxins from the body
Although our bodies are specifically designed and naturally prepared to push toxins from the body (for example, the liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, etc!), the efficacy of natural detoxification can depend on a number of personal factors.
For example, if you don’t have a healthy gut microbiome, if you have a lot of exposure to heavy metals, if you have a health condition, or if you don’t consume a balanced diet with essential micronutrients and certain ingredients such as polyphenols, your body will likely struggle to push toxins from the body.
So, when you undergo a full body detox, you support and promote your body to properly push toxins from the body. Full body detoxes can also be incredibly useful when trying to reset the body’s overall health and wellbeing.
Before we dive in and tell you exactly what happens when you detox and how to do it, let’s first take a look at why full-body detoxing is so essential, even for those that are in an optimum state of health.
In today’s world, more than ever before, toxins are all around us – they’re in the food we eat, the air we breathe, our personal care products, our household products, and even in our water!
Toxins, whether in the form of heavy metals, pesticides, hormones, or antibiotics, are harmful to the body – they not only increase inflammation, promote radical change and oxidative stress, and put us in a state of ill health over time, but they also directly compromise the strength of our body’s natural detox process.
Therefore, it’s a vicious circle – toxins attack our bodies but render our bodies unable to push them from the body.
If we continue to function without detoxing on a regular or semi-regular basis, toxins within the body build up and detrimental health effects occur, such as weight gain, breakouts, poor gut health, fatigue, headaches, insomnia, and even chronic illnesses.
This is exactly why doing a full-body detox is so important. Putting our body into a state of detox on a regular or semi-regular basis reduces the likelihood that we will struggle with a build-up of toxins in our body over time and therefore lowers the likelihood that we will suffer from negative health effects.
Now you know why full-body detoxing is so important, let’s dive in and take at what happens when you actually do a full-body detox!
Essentially, detoxification removes toxic build-up within the body that is holding you back from experiencing true vitality, both in the body and the mind.
There are several areas of your body that will specifically be affected when you do a full-body detox. These parts are the cells, organs and tissues, lymphatic system, liver and bile ducts, and the digestive system.
To experience TRU Health, all of these areas are supported in different ways, whether through increasing fiber intake, consuming certain micronutrients or foods, practicing different types of movements, undergoing certain treatments, or focusing on different areas of wellbeing.
However, in each of these areas, the toxin build-up is released – toxins are pushed from the body and these areas are rejuvenated and supported to continue pushing toxins from the body naturally.
There’s no more need for you to trawl the internet searching for detox tips – I’m going to give you real, honest guidance that others won’t, to help you do a full body detox in just 7 steps.
Start By Evaluating Your Health
Before you do anything, you need to start by evaluating the state of health you are in. Ask yourself questions about your health and life as a whole that will determine whether or not you are exposing yourself to high levels of toxins that will be affecting your health.
These questions are not limited to but include:
Do you suffer from digestive issues?
Are you overly fatigued or lacking energy on a regular basis?
Do you experience high levels of stress?
Is your skin particularly sensitive?
Do you spend a lot of time in a particularly polluted environment?
Change Your Morning Drink
Most people have a drink in the morning to wake themselves up, but what if I told you that you can push your body into a state of detox by simply rethinking this morning beverage?
Before you consume anything else, start your day with warm lemon water.
Beginning your day with warm lemon water helps your digestive system wake up, preparing the digestive tract for whatever you will consume for the remainder of the day. Additionally, lemon supports the liver and can promote waste elimination.
So, a simple way to support your body to detox on a daily basis is by starting your day with a warm (not hot!) cup of lemon water.
Create A Diet That Fuels You
Stop and think about the food that you’re consuming! Which foods make you feel full of energy and clean? Which foods make you feel drained and bloated?
Remove the foods that fail you and incorporate more foods into your diet that fuel you!
As cliche as it may sound, you really are what you eat. So, eat well!
If you consume the right foods for your body, you will support your body to detox naturally. Try to focus on incorporating more of a plant-based diet into your life, and increase the number of greens and superfoods in your diet – these types of foods are packed with micronutrients, fiber, enzymes, antioxidants, and nutrients that help your body detox.
Also, stay away from non-organic food products, since these may provide higher levels of toxins via pesticides and GMO foods.
Prioritise Your Gut Health
When the gut isn’t in an optimal state of health, toxins can be stored within the body via circulation, rather than being excreted from the body.
You may also experience digestive health issues and conditions if you don’t support your gut health. So, you need to ensure that your gut is as healthy as possible!
In addition to eating as clean and gut-friendly as possible, adding probiotics and prebiotics, such as TRU Inulin, into your diet helps support the microbiome of your gut and can help to push toxins from the body.
Think About Beauty Products and Household Products
Research has shown that the average woman uses over 150+ chemicals on their body every day! Although you might assume that the health of your body is only affected by what you’re consuming, what you use on your body and in your home affects your level of health too!
So, prioritize using natural and organic products on your body and within your home!
In particular, ditch using products with fragrance or perfume, stay away from parabens, swap the chemical sunscreens for natural alternatives, keep away from SLS & SLES (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate & Sodium Laureth Sulfate, and Phthalates!
A TRU Beauty Detox is to download the App “Think Dirty” which helps you look into the quality and origins of your everyday products.
Ditch Alcohol
If you’re doing a full-body detox, the last thing you should do is consume alcohol! Regularly consuming alcohol has a significant impact on the body’s detoxification process since it affects the liver’s ability to naturally push toxins from the body.
Although consuming a small amount of alcohol on an occasional basis is normally acceptable for your body if you are trying to detox, stay completely away from it!
Instead of consuming alcohol, switch your favorite cocktail or wine for a gut-supporting beverage such as kombucha or sparkling water with bitters!
Detox All Aspects of Your Life
Whilst a full body detox typically focuses on supporting the natural areas of your body that are responsible for pushing toxins from the body, detoxing your mind is also incredibly important!
Do you have any people in your life that you think are toxic?
Do you have limiting beliefs that are toxic to self-development?
Do you find you’re in any toxic relationships?
It’s time to push those toxic situations away from you too! If you find that people or situations in your life are making you feel particularly stressed, negative, sad, or anxious, it’s time to remove that from your life!
Become your TRU self now and your tribe will find you, I promise!
